I don't know how SJ McCoy keeps coming up with these wonderful heart-warming stories, but I hope she never stops. I love her down to earth characters, and the closeness of all the friends. Every book has different situations happening, making them all very interesting, and enjoyable books to read.This story is about Renee and Gabe.
Renee is down on her luck and just barely able to keep her head above water, after her husband embezzled money from the charity they worked for. He's awaiting trail now, but everything they had or ever worked for has been confiscated by the authorities. The only thing she has left is her run-down dilapidated childhood home back in Summer's Lake. She was really lucky that Ben gave her a job at the bakery, but that's not her real dream job. She's sort of at a cross roads with her plans still up in the air, when she runs into Gabe, an old childhood friend, and now a very successful trial lawyer in N.Y.City.
Gabe has always been goal oriented. To say that he was married to his career would have been an understatement, until just recently. Now he just feels like he's missing out on something. He's not quite sure of what it is, but all of the big victories he's had in the court room lately, just don't make him as happy as it should have anymore. He starts going home on the weekends to visit with his family, and trying to figure out the missing parts of his life. When he sees how happy his little brother has become with his nephew and his new fiance', Gabe realizes that that is what he's missing in his life. Then he spots Renee working behind the bar, and knows instantly, that shes the one he wants to share his life with.
But how can they make a relationship work, when they live and work on the opposite sides of the country? And even if they did figure the location part out, there is a lot of other things standing in their way....like she's still legally married!
I'm still worried about Holly & Pete, hopefully they'll be able work their differences out in the coming books. I am still waiting for Ben's HEA. I also want to see Chance---who is is in both the Remmington Series, as well as this one--- finally get his HEA, too. I know, I know, I'm being really greedy. ;)

I have read all 6 previous books in this series. I love watching all these characters develop book to book. SJ McCoy pulls you in and hooks you. Start at the beginning you will not regret it!
Another winner! Trying to start over in life is sometimes complicated. Renee needs to feel like she belongs, after loosing everything. Gabe wants to start a new life with her but it becomes a battle of wills. A great series!
Gabe and Renee' s story is one based on stubbornness and trying to deal with finding ways to find a middle ground. I really liked the way the two main characters tried dealing with compromise. I enjoyed this story, as I have the previous ones in this series. Definitely a book/series to recommend.
I really enjoyed reading this story. The writer did a beautiful job telling the story. The setting was good, the characters were great, an all around great story. I will definitely read more of her writing.

SJ has done it again! This is another amazing book in the Summer Lake series. Renee and Gabe are such an amazing realistic couple. And I loved how we get to see how all of the other couples are doing. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
Always good to go back to Summer Lake to visit with some great characters. This is a series, but each book can easily be read as a stand alone. This story is about Renee and Gabe. Renee is a down on her luck woman who has a positive attitude. Gabe has it all but is not really happy with how his life is going. They knew each other when they were growing up, but went on to have different paths. I have to say that I liked Gabe much more than I did Renee. She is so stubborn. I just wanted to shake her. I know there will be more books, but I am bothered by what is going on with Pete and Holly. Hopefully, I will get my answers soon. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.

Smile Like You Mean It is a very special, heartwarming story of what love really means. No romance is perfect, no life is perfect. It is how you live and love that makes it worth while. SJ McCoy has been able to hit the heart of this emotion. Being able to forgive yourself and learn to let love and friendship replace that loss is the key to life. You don't have to do alone.
Personally I see SJ McCoy as an artist of words. She is able to put her heart and soul into her writing and create such beautiful stories. Smile Like You Mean It is number 7 in the Summer Lake Series however it is not the end of the story. It is not a cliff hanger but the story of Summer Lake will keep going, bringing us closer to all the friends we have come to love.
