The explosive start to an epic urban trilogy from New York Times best-selling author JaQuavis Coleman.

Once the streets pull you in, they own you. Or at least that's the way it's been for Nautica. Growing up in the hood, all she's ever known is the fast life - fast money illicitly made through scandals and relentless scheming. But when a big scam nearly finishes her off, she decides she wants more out of life than the hustle and tries to make a new life for herself on the East Coast. It isn't long, though, before she falls in with Manny, a drug kingpin who sweeps her off her feet. He promises to marry her and make her "Queen of the Street". Then everything falls apart. As their relationship unravels, both of their dark secrets are uncovered, pitting them against each other in this exciting tale of love and deception.

Wow.

Once again a well told story by the one in only JaQuavis Coleman. This novel is so well written you would think this book was based on true events. I love the way JaQuavis takes his time to create a character like Nautica, by giving you a back story that leads up to a bigger story.

Nautica a beautiful young women that grew up in the streets along with her fast azz cousin Khia. Nautica and Khia use their witty street sense along with their sexual appeal to pull capers on men with a lot of cash.

Nautica falls for the local street hustler name Zion who tries to control Nautica, not knowing that she is born wild and free. Nautica and Khia devise a plan to snatch Zion's money and get away with it .. But!! living the street life always throws a wrench in any game plan.

A few bad events happen that will have you turing pages like a whore turning tricks on the corner lol. Nautica finds love after all but will her past sneak up and bite her??

Great novel!! Shocking ending!!

Kept me on the edge of my seating wanting more!
This novel started out n the beginning good...mid beginning/middle it died off...middle/end it blow up..nothing but drama, sadness, jealousy, and love with a touch of betrayal, lol....it became a page flipper. I have 2 say that I enjoyed all of the main players n this novel. I want 2 start with Tical. I loved everything about him...street smart..a thinker..his swagger..young and bold, not 2 mention PAID...and will hurt U if U cross him. My heart also went out 2 him for the love of a women he truly loved..it became heartfelt within those moments 4 me. That song by Kenny Lattimore "And I Love Her" perfect song 4 Tical and Nautica I feel.
I liked the memebers of his crew..GunPlay (hard) and Millie (tough), they shared sta8t up loyalty 2 Tical, and that I loved. I do feel that Nautica had the story took a different route would have made that circle complete..it would have been the perfect click.
Secrets, lies, deceit, betrayal, and even love can destroy things when handled wrong or just selfishly, and end the end it did. It was a Romeo Juliet type ending, but I wish it had been different. I enjoyed this novel and l@@kin 4ward 2 DopeFiend...what's Millie up2?

Keep'em commin JaQua
My first gripe about this novel is the title, it totally baffles me. Part two of this book, is named The Dopeman's Wife. So the book is titled The Dopeman's Wife, AND the last third (part 2) of the book? After all of that Nautica was never officially a "wife" in the entire book. Before you read my review, I want to add a disclaimer that this could be a spoiler for you. I had a tough time, trying to write a review for this novel it was just so average to me, and nothing really exciting to write about. BLAH!

*****SPOILER ALERT******

This book was all over the place. It began pretty slowly for me. The first third of the book was written building up the characters Nautica her cousin and best friend Khia. They work together, live together and are pretty much inseparable. Chicken stop workers by day, strippers by night, and stick up girls when opportunity knocks. Nautica meets Zion, a local D Boy and quickly becomes his main. The Author leads us to believe that they're in love; however I never really felt the deep connection. Zion and his close friend Loon, who is described to be one scurrilous individual, will kill at the drop of dime, and together they run Flint. The once doting Zion is now a jealous freak causing sudden chaos. Nautica and Khia seek revenge, plan to rob him, move to NYC and never look back. Naturally the scheme doesn't pan out the way it was planned and Nautica is left to make it do for herself.

FAST FORWARD....
Nautica meets Tical, a wealthy young man running everything that moves in and out of B-more with investments in the TV show, The Wire. Once he sets his eyes on Nautica it's a wrap and together the two fall into pure bliss. Nautica's past is the rising action in this novel. Tical absolutely despises gold diggers, and ghetto rats with hood history. Natutica is petrified of Tical finding out her past and endures some obstacles in trying to suffice those issues.

So here's my second gripe. Why couldn't Nautica tell Tical what her past was like, it's not like she was a hooker selling her coochie, the only reason she was caught up in the situation with Zion was because he turned abusive, she wasn't the one who pulled the trigger. It's not like Tical was some honorable priest or something, he was trap star! He orchestrated hits and had his hands heavy in the game. I wanted to just SCREAM, ugh I hated what she went through to protect her not-so-scandalous past.

So at the end of the book everyone dies with the exception of one character. I have no idea why there is going to be a part 2. Leave it alone. There is nothing to look forward to. JMO!

3 stars, it was okay.....enough to keep me reading, but very bland.

This year is turning out to be a good year for books. The Dopeman's Wife is a defiant banger. I read this book in about three hours tops I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN.

JaQuavis has written a new hood classic. Nautica and Khia are cousins looking for a come come up. Nautica meets Zion one Flint's major players and thinks she's made it to the top but soon finds out that being with Zion isn't all it's cracked up to. After Khia's disastrous birthday party thanks to Zion, Nautica and Khia decide to rob him and leave Flint to start over. Things don't go as planed .

Nautica ends up alone ( I won't tell you how or why) that's when she meets Tical, Detriot's number one man. Everything is going fine between the two until someone from Nautica's past shows up and throws a monkey wrench in her program. Then you have Millie a young lady Tical took and treats like a lil sister who is secretly in love with Tical. There is so much going on in this book you really don't want it to end.

This book starts off with a bang and ends with an even better one! 5 stars ALL DAY.

I started and couldn't put it down if I didn't have to sleep I would have finished last night it was that damn good. I love Nautica and Tical was a great couple. The ending of the book caught me by surprised. I had to read it twice to make sure I was reading it right. Great job JaQuavis I give this book 5 stars. Now on to part 2.
