The story involves a female tutor/heroine, her teenage male student, and his father/hero. She is on a quest to retrieve a stolen book from a couple of vile noblemen. The hero's friend, a gothic romance author, dreams up a plan to help ensnare the evil duo in order to make them pay for all their dastardly doings. The plan causes the 2 sinister scoundrels to tuck their tales and run away. All of this was okay, but oh my word, what a completely gross ending. The man staggers home drunk and confronts the lady tutor with an account of his recent activities. He has been at his club, gambling dens, and enjoying the soft caresses of the lovely blonde prostitute. Sickening. A few hours later, without even bathing, he is confessing his adoration and his desire to make the heroine his wife. The heroine, apparently suffering from amnesia or some olfactory disorder, overlooks the prostitute's perfume to tell him how wonderful he is and that yes, she would be honored to be his wife. Ugh! Just the thought is enough to turn your stomach.Product details

Second Chances Lessons in Love Book 2 edition by Andrea Pickens Romance eBooks Reviews
This story is about a young lady who is knowledgeable and is hired to tutor a fifteen year old who placed the ad himself. All so very unusual for that time period. She is own a mission of her own and unwittingly engages the whole family's help in her endeavor for justice. We all know she falls in love with the boy's father and the tale ends happily. This book was well written with no boring parts. I enjoyed reading it a lot.
Although I enjoyed the story, it started kind of slow or dragging that I almost gave up reading it but am glad I didn't. The author drew the reader in and allowed us to feel the many emotions her characters felt throughout the story. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, romance, and not too sexual. The only thing that I would have changed is when Leo returns drunk, having slept with a whore or mistress and proposes to Allegra later that night; she should have been angry for what he has done if he is suppose to be in love with her. And although he apologies, it should have been heart felt, promising that he would never do that again, otherwise I enjoyed it.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would read it again. However, I read most of the reviews first and have to agree with the spoilers. The author missed the opportunity for the hero to sweep the heroine off her feet and make this a five star romance. The current ending is decidely anti-romantic.
What makes this book so good then? The relationship between Max (the son) and Allegra, the banter between Allegra and Leo, the descriptions of the Yorkshire landscape, the adventures and unfolding of the plan to thwart the villains. The overall plot is excellent, the writing is smooth and well paced and the main characters are all very likeable (even grumpy Leo who is TD&H and completely honorable until the end). I will definitely read more from this author.
This story is one that grabs you right away. You are drawn in to the story even before I read the whole story of WHAT happened to the heroine to lead her to this situation.
Throughout this series I get the feeling that this author loves horses and children. She seems to know them well.
Once you learn of WHY she is doing what she does and the hero learns of it--then this story grows and blooms with really great relatives and characters that you'd like to know.
When the family decided to help the heroine--the action began and built and built (when I put down the book, I kept wondering what they were going to do!)
I started with "THE DEFIANT GOVERNESS" and then bought the next two and this one was really good. IT IS a KEEPER for sure!
A wonderful light Regency Romance. I wish everyone's backgrounds had been fleshed in more but. That is my only complaint other than that the mystery subplot was a little forced. Honestly, I could have done without it. Leo could have gotten Max and Allegra to London under more mundane circumstances. But it wasn't a story breaker either and it did make for some amusing drama. I thought the author had an especially deft pen for the teen in the book. That character was well drawn. The heroine was also lovely. She was a refreshingly normal girl who was well educated. Even her mad scheme was something I could imagine setting upon myself had I shared her experiences. And of course our T, D, & H Hero was wonderful as well. It was nice to see a Regency father figure especially because he was so unsure. Normally I prefer my romances childless but this one was so well done on all accounts that I barely thought of it. An excellent read. Highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
Allerga Proctor gets a job tutoring Leo the Earl of Wexham's son. The only problem is that the son Max hired her. Leo since it is so far for her to turn around and go back let's her stay till he can find someone else. He later finds out she is trying to get revenge on his neighbor that did injury to her father. They set up a plan with other's to trap the villain. Leo does not want to marry again or she but he has to keep fighting off his interest in her.I liked the book you have two people having a second chance at love but will they take it. I think that if Leo went to the brothel at the end he certainly picked a wrong time. He told her about it then turned around and asked her to marry him. I think he could have done something else because he felt misunderstood.
I really liked this book and enjoyed other works by this author, but I was very annoyed at the ending. The main character, Allegra, was a strong, determined female, but in the last scene her reaction is completely out of character. I liked the interaction between Allegra and Leo, banter and a bit of spark, but I never feel that there is a pivotal twist when they realize they are in love.
****spoiler alert****
I can't see how Leo would sleep with another woman (for a second time in the story) and then brag to Allegra while intoxicated. Then only hours later proposes to her! And then she accepts! What! Who does that?! I had to reread the last few pages to see if maybe I missed something. Seems tawdry and made me not like either character. Great book if you leave off the last chapter.
