I found this to be quite the inspirational book. As I started it, I wasn't sure whether it would grab me or not, but it exceeded all of my expectations. It is well written, concise, humorous and totally accessible. Van Amerongen has crafted a well-thought out diary of her incredible undertaking and each step is a joy to behold. I like that you can pick it up and put it back down whenever you want because the daily activity log gives you the flexibility to read for a long time, or just pick it up and get through a few quick pages.I found myself rooting for her to reach her goal, even though I knew from the beginning that she made it. I am not a runner, but a biker and I found many similarities between her running and my biking--such as doing it in different cities around the country, doing it in inclement weather, looking for accessories that work for you, etc. I sure wish my legs could handle running again as after reading this, I wanted to go out and try and do a year running streak--it's THAT inspiring. If you want to start running (or any kind of exercise), if you want to change something about yourself, if you want to be proud of yourself, if you want to be inspired or if you just like reading a good book, this one is for you!

If you can feed your body and soul even in the smallest way every day it will go a long way!!!
This book was more then I expected. Bit by bit it drew me in. As Julie's year of running worked its way along, I came to understand how a goal of running every single day could slowly evolve from being an almost insurmountable goal, to becoming a part of her daily life. Of course its hard to stay motivated at first, but day by day, run by run, it eventually becomes not easy, but part of her daily routine. As she says "I know I'm not going to not go. That isn't an option anymore."
There is also a generous sprinkling of tips about equipment, clothing options, and training.
As someone who works out on a regular basis, I appreciate the dedication it takes to commit your time to something and stick with it. It's easy to find ways to put it off, but it's just as easy to keep it up, as Julie shows in her book. It's a story of commitment, with insight into techniques to help keep you going on just about any daily practice.
This book inspired me to get to the gym, push my endurance, think about my breathing, and to nourish my body and spirit!!!!
I'm not even a runner, but this book inspired me to think differently about having a daily practice. What a fun project that makes it possible to change your life a little bit at a time. Thanks Julie!!
This down to earth and honest tale of a year of running was enjoyable and inspiring! It is easy to relate to, and I would recommend this book for runners and non-runners alike. Julie's story is not just about running but about life.
